My name is Dee. I am a second-year doctoral student in sociology at the University of Arizona. Prior to enrolling here, I have worked in marriage and family therapy, community mental health in the nonprofit sector, and behavioral counseling.
I have been blogging for a few years now, but Brainsplitter is my most recent valiant effort to enhance both my writing and my research interests while networking with other social scientists and fledgling scholars.
My writing interests for this project include politics, culture, race, and current events. My research interests off- and on-blog include race and ethnicity, culture, social movements, public and social policy, social reforms, grassroots politics, and community mobilization.
In my downtime, I enjoy swimming, running, volleyball, and hanging out with my friends. I strongly identify as a liberal, a progressive, and freethinker, but I also appreciate good debate and dialogue. When people talk, ideas move and get exchanged. This blog is written in the spirit of such respectful contemplation and argumentation.
